Since 2007, grassroots activists, residents, volunteers, and supporters have worked together in order to start the Millvale Community Library (MCL). Over 1,000 volunteers provided over 50,000 hours of service from 2007 to our grand opening in August of 2013. MCL is Millvale, PA's first public library.
MCL uses a triple bottom line design to ensure sustainable operations. This design includes three on site apartment rentals, an office rental, and both the teen clubhouse and our solar powered library. We are 80% of the way there, and are reaching out through this campaign to help during the final push to Realize the Dream.
While local foundations and community members are coming together to help finish construction and set up our programming, we are reaching out to you in order to continue and expand our Maker Thursdays program for one year. This work is at the heart of why we do what we do. Maker Thursdays provides free Making opportunities to and with our youth and families. One entire year of programming for one day will cost us $3,600. Anything raised beyond that will go to support an expansion of the Maker program to other days and interested community organizations.
