Help Michael Stanford Raise $1,000 & He Will Shave His Head
Organized by: Michael Stanford
Event Name: Christmas Challenge
EVENT DATE Jan 01, 2015
Christmas time is here and I can't help but be reminded of how incredibly blessed I am. I have a wonderful family, a great job, amazing friends, and I've been blessed with a long history of unforgettable Christmas memories. I really have more than I could ever ask for, so instead of asking for gifts this year, I am going to ask for something different.
I need everyone's help and participation to ensure I get NOTHING for Christmas this year. You heard me correctly. The reason I want NOTHING is b/c I want everyone who was planning on buying me something for Christmas this year to instead take that money and put it towards helping me reach $1,000 to give to a very special little girl named Monseratt and her family.
Monserrat is a 7 year old girl that I have had the privilege of sponsoring for the past several years through an amazing ministry called Compassion International which focuses on freeing children out of poverty. She lives in the outskirts of a small town in Mexico called Col. Morelos, which has a small population of about 3,000 people, and you can bet her Christmases are probably pretty small too. SO HELP ME CHANGE THAT THIS YEAR! I can't think of anything that would make me happier this Christmas than being able to surprise Monserrat's family with an unexpected cash gift that they could use towards paying off medical bills, improved housing. and of course FOOD!
My goal is to raise $1,000 by New Years. This is absolutely achievable in today's society with the use of social media. Everyday there are articles and videos that we all read and re-share on Facebook that end up getting shared by the thousands. By no means do I expect to receive that many shares, but the good news is even a fraction of enough shares should get us to our goal! It would mean the world to me if you would give whatever you can to support this cause, but just for good measure, let me give you a few incentives to convince you to help...
#1 - Christmas is the season of giving. Here is an opportunity for you to give in a very tangible and awesome way.
#2 - IF YOU HELP ME RAISE $500: I will post a video on Facebook of me performing a stunning rendition of a popular Christmas Carol that will feature the names of all those that have contributed money.
#3 - IF YOU HELP ME RAISE $750: I will post a video on Facebook of me reading off the list of names of everyone who has helped contribute money to this cause while my friends slowly poor freezing cold buckets of ice water over me outside in the cold winter weather until I finish reading the entire list.
#4 - IF YOU HELP ME RAISE $1,000: I will agree to let my friends shave off all my hair on New Years Eve. We will record the process and post the video on Facebook for all to see. All forms of hair-shaving designs will unfortunately be accepted and encouraged and I will be required to wear the resulting hair style all night.
Sounds fun right? You can watch me get my head shaved and be part of a great cause to give back this Christmas season in a very tangible way! What more could you ask for?!
Please donate however much or little that you can. Afterwards, share this link on your Facebook & Twitter feed to encourage others to join in as well and use the hashtag #ShaveMichaelsHead. Once all the money is collected, I will immediately transfer every penny to Monserrat's family via my account with Compassion International.
Thank you for your support! Merry Christmas!
"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me."
